HELP US FUND DECEMBER AT WHITE RIVER HUMANE SOCIETY

At White River Humane Society, every single life we save is made possible by you. We are primarily funded by public donations, and the only reason we can provide food, shelter, medical care, and second chances to homeless and abandoned animals is because of the generosity of people who believe in our mission.

The cost of operating the shelter has exceeded the donations we’ve received, and we’re facing a gap as we head into the final month of the year. It takes around $25,000 each month to keep our doors open, care for the animals who rely on us, and respond when new ones need help.

As we look toward December, we need our community more than ever.

Can you help us close the gap and fully fund December by donating today?
Every contribution, large or small, directly supports animals who have nowhere else to go.

Your kindness keeps them warm, safe, and loved. Donate today and help us continue this life-saving work.

Thank you for believing in second chances.

WRHS is a Pro-Life Shelter

In 2024 alone, we sheltered 1,120 animals and achieved an incredible 96% out-alive rate—a testament to the dedication of our staff, board, volunteers, and the support of our amazing community.

However, things were not always this way. White River Humane Society (WRHS) has come a long way in its mission to save and protect homeless animals. Over a decade ago, the euthanasia rate stood at 51% for cats and 44% for dogs. These numbers were heartbreaking, but with hard work, determination, and a commitment to a pro-life philosophy, WRHS has transformed into a true safe haven for animals in need.

This success would not be possible without the tireless efforts of our staff, adopters, volunteers, board members, foster families, rescue partners, and generous supporters. Over the years, we have saved thousands of animals—giving them a second chance at a loving home.

But our work is far from over. To continue our lifesaving efforts, we rely on the community for support through donations, fundraisers, volunteering, adoptions, and foster care. Every dollar, every hour, and every adoption makes a difference. Together, we can give more animals the future they deserve.

Join us in our mission—because every life matters.

Here are only a few of the many animals that have passed through White River Humane Society.

Is your pet missing?

Welcome to White River Humane Society Animal Shelter

Time is crucial when pets are lost. It is important to contact Animal Control in your area to verify if your pet was picked up and to verify where the pet is being held during the local stray hold period per local ordinances (in most cases 5 days). At WRHS, when a pet is brought in by a Good Samaritan or an Animal Control Officer, we will post their photo to our Facebook page. You are welcome to visit the shelter to take a look to see if your pet is here Monday through Saturday. Visit us at www.WhiteRiverHumaneSociety.org/lost-pets for tips and more information.

*Please note due to contract changes some lost pets are being held at government locations or other third-party providers. Animal pickups via Animal control are reportedly lower in frequency than in the past, so animals may be with another citizen or still roaming.

Accidents happen. Please take steps to keep your pets safe and on your property. We highly advise microchipping your pet to increase the chances of them being returned to you if they are ever lost or stolen.

Pets can be microchipped at WRHS with proof of ownership for a ONE time fee of ONLY $15. Please call for an appointment 812-279-2457.

Pet of the Week

🐾✨ Meet Ruby — Our Cat of the Week! ✨🐾

Ruby is an absolute sweetheart who has captured all of our hearts here at WRHS. Just a little over a year old, this beautiful young mama craves attention, loves to be picked up, and soaks up every bit of affection she can get. 💖

She hasn’t been around other cats here besides her own kittens — Onyx and Indigo, who have already been adopted — but she did wonderfully with them, and we’re confident she’d do well with other friendly cats too.

Ruby is more than ready to find her forever home, and she can’t wait to share all her love with someone special. 🏡🐱💕

Ruby is up to date on vaccinations, dewormed, tested for FIV/FeLv and has been spayed.

Dog of the Week -Peter

💙 Meet Peter — Our Dog of the Week & the Last Brady Bunch Puppy 💙

Sweet little Peter is still waiting at the shelter… and he just can’t understand why his forever family hasn’t come for him yet. At 5½ months old, Peter is everything you could ever want in a new best friend — friendly, playful, loving, and wonderful with people and other dogs.

Peter and his siblings were found abandoned along the road, and these brave pups fought their way back after surviving Parvo. Now Peter is healthy, hopeful, and so ready for the life he deserves.

Every day, he watches families walk by his kennel, wishing today will be the day someone finally chooses him. With the holidays approaching, Peter is dreaming of spending them curled up in a warm, loving home instead of being the last pup left behind.

Before heading home, Peter will be neutered, up to date on vaccinations, dewormed, and microchipped — he just needs that one special family to say yes.

🐾 Could that be you?
Come meet Peter and give this sweet boy the forever home he’s been waiting for.
